COMPARE: Stila, Maybelline & Milani Liquid Eyeliners!

stila maybelline milani liquid eye liners
Eye liners and eyeshadows have always been my number one makeup products and they were the very first products I used. I still remember the very first eyeliner I bought (Annabelle Kohl Pencil Liner). Since then there has been many more eyeliner options: gel, pots, retractable pencils, liquid, and etc. When I’m getting ready for work or when I’m rushing out the door, I really like to use liquid eyeliner pencils because they’re quick and easy to apply, there is no need to find a clean brush and they usually last all day/night long!

I’m always out looking for new liquid eyeliners so I thought I would compare three of the ones I find myself grabbing the most. They are the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner , Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Liner, and Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eyeliner .

Swatches of Stila, Maybelline and Milani Liquid Eye Liners
Application: All three are very similar with marker-like tips. They all start very firm and give a very precise line but gradually become more malleable as you use it. In the swatches above I tried making a thicker line and a thinner line to show how these liners work if you were to do very thin details and they all are very similar. Milani tends to have more of a brown tint compared to the other two when making light strokes.

Pigmentation: They all apply very evenly and very bold. Milani is buildable which is good if there are days you want a more natural liquid liner look. If you really like the bold and strong liner with a smoky eye, Stila is very consistent and the best in pigmentation (only by a bit) but you have to remember to shake it before using it!!

Lasting power of Stila Maybelline and Milani Liquid Eyeliners
LEFT: Smudging using my finger after 3 minutes
MIDDLE: One wipe of makeup remover (Clinique® Take The Day Off Makeup Remover)
RIGHT: Rubbing with makeup remover

Stila dries very quickly and there is only minimal smudging so you can be sure once you draw the line it won’t move. It also makes it the most difficult to remove with makeup remover.
Maybelline and Milani take longer to dry (about 5 minutes) and smudge quite easily if you touch it before it dries completely.

VERDICT
Stila is the go-to liner if you want a bold and highly pigmented line that won’t budge throughout the day. Maybelline and Milani are cheaper options for those who want the same pigmentation but the downside is the drying time. I have dry-normal eyelids so when I apply any of these liners they tend to stay unless I rub my eyes a lot but if you have oilier lids I would definitely take the extra time to put on a primer or powder to the lids. They all easily glide on the lids with no feathering, pulling or running and it really just depends on what you’re looking for in a liner and how much you’re willing to spend! They all last throughout the day (if you let it dry completely) and I have tested them all after a full day running around at work with these liners and coming home to see it look exactly the same as when I first applied it in the morning!
