ZOEVA Spectrum Collection : Swatches & Review (Pink Blush Spectrum & Cool Eyeshadow Spectrum)

 

Minimalistic. Elegant. Sophisticated. These are the words I’d use to describe ZOEVA Cosmetics new launch – The Spectrum Collection.

If you have ever heard of the concept in the picture below…

… it is essentially the vision and concept behind ZOEVA’s new launch : To use a single palette to create innumerable different looks.

The Spectrum Collection launch date is January 11th, 2016.

It consists of:

• 3 Eyeshadow Palettes: Warm, Nude, and Cool (1.5g / 0.05oz each x 15 shades = 22.5g/0.75oz per palette)
  • SIZE (closed) : 19 x 11.5 x 1 cm
  • Retail Value: 35 EUR / 42 USD (approx. $54 CAD)
    • compared to MAC shadows which have 1.3g/0.04oz per pan at $12 CAD / 8 EUR each
    • MAC Warm Neutral and Cool Neutral Eyeshadow x 15 palettes have 19.5g/0.68oz = $99 CAD / 68 EUR each

• 3 Blush Palettes: Pink, Nude, and Coral (3.8g / 0.13oz each x 4 shades = 15.2g / 0.52oz per palette)
  • SIZE (closed) : 11.5 x 11.5 x 1 cm
  • Retail Value: 18 EUR / 20 USD (approx. $28 CAD)

Similar to all other ZOEVA palettes, the Spectrum Collection palettes are housed in a paper sleeve with identical patterns as the palette itself. Using the same light refracting strips as the ZOEVA En Taupe Palette launched in October 2015 (you can read my review with swatches HERE), it matches the concept of having a single stream of white light disperse into the colours of the visible spectrum. They have a smooth magnetic closure without a mirror inside resulting in a sleek and lightweight design. The interior has a glossy finish which is easy to clean and prevents dust and pigment build up.

Pink Spectrum (Blush Palette)

The formulation of the blushes is enriched with vitamin E and is 100% free of parabens, mineral oils, perfume, and phthalates. Made in Italy.

 

The Pink Spectrum consists of 4 shades with MATTE and SATIN finishes.

 

PK010 (Satin) : A true rosy pink with a slight sheen to it which is particularly beautiful for days with warm sunlight. Think of NARS Orgasm but with a toned down sparkle and less gold flakes.

PK020 (Matte) : A pastel blossoming pink. I find this one is the most subtle of them all and the most blendable. It will be best for the fair skinned beauties out there 🙂

PK030 (Matte) : Imagine walking through a winter wonderland wearing a soft chunky scarf and cute toasty mittens with snowflakes falling in the background. Zoom in on the cheeks which are slightly chilled from the frosty weather outside – this is the colour you’re looking at. Definitely more cool-toned than the others, it provides the most innocent flush to your cheeks.

PK040 (Matte) : If you like a pop of colour to a more natural makeup look, PK040 is your pick. Hot pink – that’s all I can say. This shade is so intensely pigmented I made the swatch above with only one swirl in the pan!

Cool Spectrum (Eyeshadow Palette)

The Cool Spectrum comes with 15 pans emulating the Northern Lights (aurora) with MATTE, SATIN and PEARL finishes.

• CL010 (matte) – an earthy ash brown
• CL020 (pearl) – a metallic grey with the slightest bit of teal
• CL030 (matte) – charcoal black, think of UD Blackout
• CL040 (satin) – a warm brown, like the colour of marshmallows over a campfire
• CL050 (satin) – a moody teal
• CL060 (satin) – undersea green with tiny speckles of silver
• CL070 (pearl) – icy pink
• CL080 (pearl) – pale lilac
• CL090 (satin) – orchid with a sheen
• CL100 (*pearl) – mineral gold … more like hidden treasure ❤
• CL110 (*pearl) – rich syrup
• CL120 (*pearl) – boiling caramel
• CL130 (matte) – frost with a cool hue
• CL140 (matte) – tan
• CL150 (pearl) – pearled pastel brown with swirls of pink

My favourite shades are CL100, CL110 and CL120. I was hesitant to put a pearl finish next to their names because they feel significantly different from the other shadows. They are extremely creamy and pigmented I almost thought they were cream or ZOEVA’s signature duochrome texture. ZOEVA always amazes me with these finishes both in the ZOEVA En Taupe Palette and in this Spectrum Collection. If I could purchase these three shades separately, I’d stock up to have enough to last an eternity.

Some shades in this palette require a bit more work to build up to the desired pigmentation (CL040 for example); however they do apply very nicely and are very blendable. Minor fallout is seen with CL040 and CL060 when applied with a brush.

I have not tested all shadows in this palette for longevity but the ones I have used last around 8 hours with a primer and 6 hours without (note: I hardly ever wear eyeshadows for more than 8 hours to begin with).

In all, a very magical palette that contains a nice variety of pigments to produce everyday looks as well as more mystifying creations.
